How to install Umwelt on Windows 10 & Android Wear.

1. Download and execute the Windows Umwelt Installer on your PC.
   Because Umwelt is not signed with a Windows certificate it will show the warning below.
   

   

   Select "More Info".

   

   Select "Run Anyway".

2. Using your phone install Umwelt for Android Wear into your watch.
3. (Important!) Enable unrestricted Bluetooth access on the watch.
   

   The first time you run Umwelt on your watch, Android Wear will restrict the access to Bluetooth, after 30 minutes. Umwelt will then show the confirmation dialog on the right asking for you to allow unrestricted access to Bluetooth. Please allow unrestricted access. If you choose "X", Umwelt will not be able to run.

4. (Important!) Select the Umwelt Credential provider on the Sign In screen:
   1. Press Windows Key + L, to activate the Sign In screen.
   2. Click on "Sign In Options"
      
   3. Select the icon with the Umwelt smartwatch.
      
   4. Type your password to sign in again and keep the Umwelt Credential Provider as the default.
      
5. (Optional) You might want to turn off sleep mode because Umwelt will not be able to wake up your computer from sleep mode, since the Bluetooth controler is turned off.
   1. Right click on the desktop and select "Display settings" from the popup menu.
      
   2. Select "Power & sleep" from the options on the left and select "Never", on the sleep options, at least for when the PC is plugged in.
      
   If you want Umwelt to sign in when the PC is in sleep mode, just tap a key on the keyboard and wait a few seconds for Umwelt to sign in.
6. (Optional) You might want to move the Umwelt icon to the tray area. It is easier to access it from there.
   Click on the tray's up arrow to show hidden icons. Drag and drop the Umwelt icon to the tray.

How to use Umwelt on Windows 10.

• Automatic lock & unlock
  Umwelt works by measuring the strength of the Bluetooth signal. When this value is below a threshold you set, Umwelt assumes that you are away from your computer and locks it. When it is above, Umwelt assumes you are close and unlocks the computer. Therefore you should adjust the rssi threshold to a value that you find confortable and reliable. To do so, you have 2 options: one in the watch, another in the computer.
  

  

  On the PC left click on the tray icon and drag the control to adjust rssi.

  

  On the watch adjust rssi by pressing the "+" and "-" buttons.

• Manual lock & unlock
  Besides automatic lock/unlock (based on signal strength) you can also force lock/unlock of your computer manually. For that you just need to tap the lock/unlock button on the Umwelt watch app. After you lock it manually you'll have to unlock also manually.
  

  

  

  
• Why Umwelt might not work reliably.
  There are several things that might cause a weak/unreliable Bluetooth signal:

  • your watch is covered by thick or damp sleeves or clothes, the radio signal doesn't flow well across humidity and wet things
  • there are other Bluetooth and/or radio emitting devices around, poluting the environment with too much noise
  • there is a metalic obstacle between the watch and computer (e.g.: you arm is under a metalic table and the computer is on top of it)
  • you're scratching your back or head, so your (wet) body is between the watch and computer
  • your watch or computer Bluetooth controller doesn't provide a strong or reliable signal or reception
• Screen saver locking. If you wish, Umwelt can block the screen saver or sleep mode while you are close to the computer. This is usefull when you use the computer without interacting with it (e.g: reading or watching movies). If you don't want this behaviour you can switch it off. Right click on the tray icon, select Preferences > Lock/Unlock and uncheck the box "Block the screen saver...".
